Best Birthday Option for a 7 Year Old in Atlanta???

Okay, here's the thing. We just moved to Jonesboro, Ga (25 min. from Atlanta) and we have no friends or family around. My six year old birthday is coming soon, but I don't know what to do since I don't have anyone to invite to his party. I am planning at least to send some cupcakes to school, and give a "special" day. Meaning taking him to a cool place, buy his favorite food and give him a present.

But my question is ...

What would be neat, really neat? The zoo (but with this climate?), The Fernbank Museum, the botanical garden? The aquarium? or what?

Any other ideas???

Clueless in Atlanta...

Reply:Birthday parties are a great way to introduce yourself and your child to the children and parents of his school. Have a party at your house, serve some cake, have a few games, meet the parents (at 7 they will all want to stay and chat.... which will help in crowd control). If you don't want the hassles, do it at a local McDonalds or Chik fil a for a few more dollars but zero hassles.

We timed our last two moves with my daughters birthday for just this reason, within a month she had friends and we knew the parents and it made life so easy.

As for a "special day" in Atlanta, do the Aquarium, I've never been there but the rest of my family has and say its a great place.
Reply:even though you just moved here...let him invite some of the boys from his class, and take them to the place called Monkey Joes....you can look it up..it is completely filled with jumpy houses, you can hold a party their or just have the parents meet you there and pay for them, and then go to stevie b's for lunch (all you can eat pizza, there is also a place called cici's that has the same, kids here love it). it would give him a chance to get to know some friends better, and you a chance to meet their parents, and if thats not an option, then I would pick the aquarium...its awesome! they also now have a sleepover option, its like 75 dollars...you can find the info on the aquarium site...and it includes food and a view behind the scenes...totally cool! zoo...is to cold, and the museum is okay...but not the greatest, there is however right by the aquarium the atlanta children's museum which is really fun, my daughter loves it., one site to check out is accessatlanta.com.....it lets you pick cities and dates for things going on in your area. have fun! and welcome to GA :)
Reply:Throw a surprize party for him and invite kids from his class, and then he could start making friends with them.
Reply:the auarium down there is awesome. they say one of the best in the world! invite his class and a few family members who are willing to come to a surprise party. Let them be ready, while you take him to his birthday special place. don't say a word about it, just be like "SO, where do you wanna go eat? You pick since it's your birthday!" or comment on the fish, but don't say anything about a party! he will be sooooo surprised!
Reply:Get a city pass card. Its a discount card for a lot of attractions in Atlanta. For $64 you can go to 6 places including the Aquarium, The World of Coke, Atlanta Zoo, Fernbank. You can take a weekend and go to all the cool places in Atl. Your son will have a blast just hanging out with you! I am a big fan of experiences as presents instead of materials. They will always remember the cool weekend you gave them!
